I personally deal with the clutter bug or hoarder gene so I know how it feels to be overwhelmed by clutter. My advice, take it a day at a time & stick to your vision! Let’s go declutter family!

1. Set Goals & Visualize.

I love setting and accomplishing goals. But if goal setting isn’t your thing simply start by visualizing what your space will look like. Or even how you will feel in your newly decluttered space. Getting in the mental state for a reset can be so refreshing.

Get inspiration! Wander around my blog. hehe. Check out Pinterest, youtube, or other creative sources for home inspiration to give you an idea of a clutter-free home.

Don’t forget to take before and after pictures. Use those photos as motivation to continue and appreciate your decluttering journey.

2. Start, especially with the trash.

Just start! Listen to some music, turn on a podcast, put a youtube video on in your background to get you going. Start with the trash to minimize your volume. Empty water bottles, broken electronic pieces, scattered paperwork, etc.

I love to begin with small decluttering projects that feel big; like countertops, coffee tables, side tables, etc. Or just start with an area or place that drives you the craziest. Anything to unwind that stress ball is the idea here. Give some rewards for your efforts!

Create a sorting system: keep, toss, store. Have a clear plan on how you will discard items, where you will keep items, and how you will store (with labels) your items.

3. Give everything a home.

Let your space define your stuff. I love this idea because often our clutter makes us feel like we need to expand beyond it instead of reducing the clutter itself. I found myself thinking “man, I need a bigger house to store all of my hair & beauty products.” When NO, I need to reduce & declutter all of my excessive hair & beauty products! It’s so helpful to keep like things together. It becomes a habit to return items to where all the others reside.

Keep it up! Continue by spending at least 5 minutes a day decluttering areas of your home to keep it tidy. Thank you so much for being here Family! Please subscribe to my emails to stay up to date!
