What Is Amazon Prime Day?
Prime Day is a global shopping event that allows you to shop for top-rated products and brands at discounted prices for a very limited time. From vacuum cleaners to Instant Pots, thousands of items will be marked down. Besides the great deals on home products, expect to see markdowns on Alexa-enabled devices and other smart home products. And if you only need basic household supplies, Amazon Pantry and Amazon Fresh can stock you up on groceries, laundry products, and more.
Not a Prime member? Sign up for a 30-day free trial before committing to the monthly fee and still take advantage of these great promotions.
When Is Amazon Prime Day?
This year, Amazon Prime Day will be held on October 13 and 14, which means that you have two full days to score discounts on tons of home products, electronics, household supplies, and more.
If I’m not an Amazon Prime member, can I still shop Prime Day deals?
Unfortunately, no—you must be an Amazon Prime member to shop Prime Day deals. However, there is a workaround: Amazon offers a free Prime membership trial for 30 days. If you sign up for this trial, you can take advantage of Prime Day. Afterward, you can either cancel your trial before your 30 days run out, or you can keep your membership and pay $119 per year.
Do keep in mind that you won’t qualify for the free trial if you’ve canceled a Prime membership in the last 12 months. If this is the case for you, we’d suggest opting for a one-month Prime membership for $12.99—just remember to cancel it before the next month begins.
Additionally, Amazon offers half-price subscriptions on Prime for students and EBT/Medicaid recipients.
I ordered an item during Prime Day. How fast will my package arrive?
Amazon Prime members have access to a variety of delivery options during Prime Day. Free same-day delivery is available on more than 3 million products (in select cities and on qualifying orders over $35). Free one-day shipping is available on more than 10 million products (no minimum purchase required). Otherwise, free two-day shipping is available across the site for Prime members. There’s also two-hour delivery via Prime Now, which is best for items like food and Amazon-brand devices. Additionally, you can choose your Amazon Day for free delivery on the day you choose, which is convenient when you order multiple items and want them shipped together or the reliability of knowing when items will come if you will not be home when your items arrive.
What are other ways to save money on Prime Day?
Deals aren’t the only way to cash in. Amazon offers two credit cards, both issued by Chase, that provide rewards perfect for shopping on Prime Day. First is the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card, which offers 3 percent cash back at Amazon.com and Whole Foods. There’s also the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card—a great option if you have particularly good credit—which offers 5 percent cash back at both retailers. Amazon also offers store cards, which are perfect if you’re building your credit. Make sure to take note of monthly interest rates, just as you would with any credit card.
How do I make sure to avoid fake deals on Prime Day?
Prime Day has some fantastic deals, but it’s easy to get carried away—the truth is, not every deal is actually as great as it seems. Thankfully, there are resources to help you sort it out. The site CamelCamelCamel, which tracks the price history of many Amazon products, can help decipher if a deal is real or if it’s actually a true price drop that’s advertised as a deal. Another great site is Fakespot.com, which can help you determine the authenticity of Amazon user reviews for any given product. And WikiBuy is also a great source for tracking price history and simultaneously searches thousands of merchants to see if you’re getting the best deal.
Do other retailers have their own sales to compete with Prime Day?
You bet! Since Prime Day debuted in 2015, many of Amazon’s rivals have held sales of their own to get in on the action, or have offered price matching such as Target, Walmart, and Best Buy.
What type of items can I expect to find as part of the sale?
Really, you’ll find anything and everything. According to Amazon, last summer’s most popular items included the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter, Instant Pot DUO60, and 23andMe Health + Ancestry kits and Amazon products like the Fire TV Stick 4K with Alexa Voice Remote, and Fire 7 Tablet.
Take a look below to see some of the items that were on sale last summer, and be sure to bookmark this page that will be updated with all the latest Prime Day Deals when the sale kicks off. Of course, if you want deals right now, check out Amazon’s Deals Hub for up-to-the-minute savings.
Also, check out my Amazon Store Front, I update it with my favorites frequently. Thank you so much for being here Family!
